10 Things To Know About TSA's Gateside Program at DFW Airport
Sep. 10—If you haven't heard, the Transportation Security Administration will now let nonflyers get past checkpoints at some U.S. airports, if they qualify.
Gateside has launched at more than a dozen airports across the country, including DFW International Airport.
DFW, the central hub of American Airlines, is the only Texas airport participating in the program so far. Gateside can be used for activities like meeting family members at their gate, eating lunch with a friend during a long layover, visiting airport restaurants and shops, and meeting service members returning from deployment, the TSA said.
But, travelers must meet certain requirements to access this new service. Here's what you need to know about TSA Gateside, according to information from the agency's website:
What is Gateside?
Gateside is a special pass that allows nonflyers with TSA PreCheck to access areas of an airport beyond security checkpoints.
How I do I get a Gateside pass?
It's simple, if you already have TSA PreCheck:
1. First you click the apply button that will take you to login.gov.
2. Create a login or enter your login information, which will take you the application portal
3. Enter your personal information on the application
4. Submit your application and wait for your dashboard to display an approval status
5. If approved, arrive at the airport and proceed to TSA PreCheck lanes. Be prepared to show an acceptable ID and your approval status if you have children on the reservation
What is the cost of Gateside?
It's free with a TSA PreCheck membership, which costs $85 or less for new enrollees.
How far in advance do I apply for Gateside visit to the airport?
The TSA is asking travelers to submit an application at least a day before their visit, but no more than three days in advance.
How long are Gateside passes valid?
Passes are valid for one calendar day and re-entry is not allowed, according to the TSA.
Does Gateside allow me to skip airport security screenings?
No, nonflyers using Gateside to access the airport terminal are still subject to the same security screening requirements and limits as ticketed passengers, the TSA said.
Is Gateside available at Dallas Love Field?
No, Dallas Love Field is not included in the airports participating in the initial rollout of the Gateside program. "TSA is adding airports in a phased approach to expand access to the program," the agency said in a statement on its website.
What if my Gateside request is denied?
The TSA is reminding people that personal information entered into the Gateside application must exactly match the information of your PreCheck membership. This information includes your name, date of birth, and known traveler number.
The agency added that airports issue a limited number of Gateside passes per day, so if your information is correct but you're denied, your airport may have reached its limit.
Can you bring your children with you using Gateside?
Yes, but they'll need to be included on your Gateside pass application. TSA officers will ask you to verify that all people, including children, who show up to the checkpoint are on the reservation.
What if I have a Gateside pass but no acceptable form of ID?
You can still show up, but a $45 fee will apply to use TSA's ConfirmID so the agency can attempt to verify your identification at the airport.
