Massport Taps Matthew Elia to Lead Worcester Regional Airport
The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced Monday that Matthew Elia is the next director of Worcester Regional Airport.
Elia began his new role Monday, succeeding Andrew “Andy” Davis, who retired in July after serving as airport director for 18 years.
“I am excited to welcome Matthew Elia to Worcester Regional Airport,” Rich Davey, CEO of Massport, said in a statement. “We were sad to see longtime Director Andy Davis retire in July, but Matthew will bring years of experience in airport management to Worcester and will be working closely with our airline partners and the community to make sure the airport continues to be an integral part of Central Massachusetts.”
Before becoming director of Worcester Regional Airport, Elia was a senior airport planner with Hoyle Tanner & Associates—a civil engineering and planning firm.
He also served as assistant airport manager for Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis, aviation manager for a seaplane base in Tavares, Fla., assistant airport manager for New Bedford Regional Airport and assistant airport manager for King Aviation at Mansfield.
He sits on the board of directors of the Massachusetts Airport Management Association and the aviation industry advisory board at Bridgewater State University.
“Matthew will be a fantastic addition to the team at Worcester Regional Airport,” Sharon Williams, Massport executive director of aviation, said in a statement. “He brings 20 years of knowledge, relationships and skills to Worcester and will build on the legacy of Andy Davis, who helped bring multiple airlines and flights to Central Massachusetts. Matthew will build on this and ensure the continued success of the airport.”
The Worcester Regional Airport is operated and overseen by Massport, an independent public agency that runs major airports, shipping docks and maritime properties in Massachusetts.
The airport is currently served by JetBlue, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. The airport offers daily direct flights to New York and Florida, with connections to other domestic and international destinations, according to the airport’s website.
