Falls Airport Receives $2.5m for Air Traffic Control Tower Replacement
Niagara Falls International Airport is set to receive more than $2,500,000 in federal funding to upgrade its facilities and equipment.
U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced Thursday that $5,367,282 in new federal funding to upgrade airport facilities and equipment has been secured for upstate New York airports. This federal funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program. The grants will fund infrastructure projects, including ones that enhance airfield safety and modernize and upgrade taxiways.
At the Niagara Falls airport, the funds will be used to fund phase 2 of a project that will reconstruct a sponsor-owned FAA control tower.
The existing sponsor-owned structure, commissioned in 1962, has exceeded its useful life and presents structural and sightline limitations, according to HigherGov. com.
“Keeping our airports in top-notch shape is crucial to attracting business and tourism to Upstate New York. I’m proud to deliver more than $5 million in federal funding to help our airports, from Niagara Falls to Ticonderoga, invest in key safety upgrades and modernization efforts,” Schumer said. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Law is continuing to help improvements at New York’s airports take off.”
Added Gillibrand, a ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee, “From big cities to rural communities, it is vital that New York’s airports have the resources they need to provide a safe and comfortable experience for all. I’m proud to deliver over $5 million in federal grants to upgrade and modernize facilities in Upstate New York …”
