Sep. 8—Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is in the running for two USA Today 10 Best awards, and Downriver residents have an opportunity to help DTW grab national recognition winning one or both of them.

The airport was nominated by a panel of travel industry experts who selected the airport in the categories of best airport for dining and best airport for shopping.

Voting is underway and will end at 11:59 a.m. on Oct. 2.

Airport officials are asking for the support of area residents as USA Today recognizes the work of airports providing a top-notch concessions program.

DTW offers nearly 100 dining and shopping options between the Evans and McNamara terminals.

According to the rules, there can be one vote for dining per day, and one vote for shopping per day, per person.

When it comes to dining, hungry travelers at DTW have a variety of options to choose from, including national chains like P.F. Chang's, Chick-Fil-A, Longhorn Steakhouse, Qdoba, and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, as well as local favorites like Papa Joe's.

On the shopping spectrum, the concessions program at the airport includes stores like Johnston & Murphy, Pandora, and the first-of-its-kind Beauty Boutique by Estee Lauder.

DTW has strived to create the ultimate customer convenience by blending in coffee concepts with travel stores, such as Time Newsstand/Starbucks.

As of Friday, Metro Airport was ranked second in the shopping category behind Nashville International Airport in Tennessee, and ranked third in dining behind Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana and Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah.
