Electrical Failure Causes Power Outage at San Jose Airport

Nov. 7, 2022

Nov. 6—Power was restored Saturday night at San Jose's airport, officials said, after an hourlong electrical failure cut the lights to terminals, shut down computer systems and left some passengers stuck on planes.

Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport officials were still trying to determine what triggered the 6:40 p.m. power outage that caused delays and inconveniences but no flight cancellations, said airport spokeswoman Ana State.

Power was restored by about 7:40 p.m.

Most lights throughout terminals and outdoor public spaces went out. Computer systems shut down. And jet bridges where passengers walk from the plane to the terminal couldn't be used, according to State.

"Poeple were stuck on the planes," State said. "They were delayed but they were safe. There was no immediate danger."

State said airport staff were restarting computer systems and trying to get operations back to normal. Electrical and operations teams were investigating the issue.
