Man with Fake Gun Arrested at Portland Airport, Police Say
Officers drew their weapons and arrested a man with a fake gun Sunday at Portland International Airport.
Kawama Moor, 25, of Portland, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree trespass, menacing and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and booked in the downtown detention center.
A Port of Portland police officer was walking to the ticket lobby at about 6:34 p.m. when he noticed what appeared to be the grip end of a handgun tucked in the waistband of a man walking past him, according to an incident report.
According to the report, the man appeared to try to hide the gun with his hand and pull his shirt over it. The officer followed the man as he walked north through the ticket lobby and radioed his observations, the report said.
The man continually looked over his shoulder at the officer and motioned toward the observed handgun, leading the officer to radio, “He’s reaching for it,” the report said. The officer drew his service weapon and aimed it at the man, ordering him to show his hands and get on the ground.
A video captured by KATU shows two officers pointing their guns at the man on the ground.
Officers found a silver, spray-painted replica handgun made from a pellet gun as well as a folding knife. The man was issued a ban from the airport and found to have “no official business at the airport, the report said.
