Data: German Airports Remain Stuck in the Coronavirus Doldrums
German airports failed again in March to emerge from the coronavirus doldrums, with the ADV airport association reporting on Thursday another hefty fall in passenger numbers.
The ADV said only 1.97 million passengers used an airport in Germany last month - 72.5 percent less than in March a year ago, when major coronavirus traffic restrictions were introduced, and 89.7 per cent down on March 2019.
The sharp fall came despite many airlines adding flights to the resort island of Majorca at short notice for Easter this year, helping many German travellers reach a popular destination.
The ADV also said the number of aircraft movements in the first quarter was down 65.8 per cent compared to the first three months of 2019 due to weaker passenger jet utilization.
However, the amount of cargo loaded and unloaded, including airmail, in the first quarter came in at 1.27 million metric tons, 7.6 per cent above the pre-crisis level.
