Dec. 14—LONDON — A second strike hit London's Heathrow Airport on Monday after a row over pay cuts failed to be resolved.

Around 1,000 workers are taking part in the targeted strike action and picket lines are socially distant.

The workers' union Unite has said the strikes are in response to "brutal" fire and rehire plans, which will see some workers be given annual pay cuts of up to 8,000 pounds (10,600 dollars).

It comes after the first strike on December 1 and later this week there will be a two-day stoppage on Thursday and Friday.

Heathrow has suffered severe losses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the nine months to September 2020, it reported 1.5 billion pounds in losses as passenger numbers dropped by 84 per cent.

" Heathrow remains open and operating with minimal impact from today's action," a spokesperson said.
