Wilmington Air Park Offers Itself as Aircraft Parking Haven
Wilmington Air Park in Clinton County is offering itself as a haven for aircraft that are grounded during the pandemic.
Leaders of the port authority controlling the park say the facility can accommodate large aircraft arrivals and departures and offer temporary space for parking.
By Friday, more than 20 passenger aircraft were already parked at the 1,900-acre park, Clinton County Port Authority leaders said.
“Together with Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services (Airborne), we are hoping to provide relief for airlines that have to find places to store these aircraft,” Dan Evers, Port Authority executive director, said in a statement Monday. “Airborne has existing customers with whom we are working to build stronger relationships. It is something we can do. It is a way we can help.”
Based at the park, Airborne has a four-hangar facility with 315,000 square feet, located at the CAT III classified airport.
The company offers a repair facility that provides a 12,000-plus line item repair capability, the air park said.
“This is an opportunity for us to leverage the great working relationship we have with the Clinton County Port Authority to further invest in our existing customers,” said Todd France, president of Airborne.
The park is an integrated aviation and logistics business park spanning 1,900 acres with nearly three million square feet of industrial, office and hangar space.
