Construction Worker Killed in Accident at Buenos Aires Airport

Sept. 25, 2019

Buenos Aires (dpa) - A construction worker was killed in an accident at the Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, the airport operator said.

Another 13 people were injured when a piece of scaffolding collapsed, Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 said in a statement.

The accident occurred during work to extend Argentina's largest airport. Flights were not affected.

Air travel has boomed in Argentina since authorities began allowing low-cost airlines to operate in the country in 2017. Last year, around 11 million people flew via Ezeiza International Airport.

The extension is intended to boost the airport's capacity to 30 million travellers annually.
