WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced $1.2 million in federal funding for hurricane recovery efforts at the Lakefront Airport Terminal Building in New Orleans. This grant is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance Program.

"I have no doubt that the Lakefront Airport will return even better than before Katrina," Sen. Landrieu said. "I am looking forward to a full recovery of one of Louisiana's most important and historic transportation hubs."

Today's grant provides:

$1.2 million for continued repairs to the Lakefront Airport Terminal Building in New Orleans. The terminal sustained damage to the roof, interior finishes, flooring, doors, windows and interior walls due to Hurricane Katrina. The funds will address additional scope of work and project costs due to unforeseen conditions arising from contract repairs, such as asbestos and lead-based paint abatement, a fire suppression sprinkler system, wood and terrazzo flooring, and the installation of an elevated steel platform for an emergency generator.
