Former ICAO Senior Official Joins ARGUS International
Professional Resources In System Management, LLC (PRISM) has named John Illson as Senior Vice President, Certification Services and Regulatory Assistance. PRISM is based in Denver, Colorado and is a wholly owned subsidiary of ARGUS International.
Captain Illson has over thirty-five years of experience working with airlines, regulatory authorities and international aviation organizations. Illson began his career as a pilot with US Airways, accumulating over 18,000 hours of flight time and holding management positions in the Flight Training department throughout his 25-year tenure with the airline.
After leaving US Airways in 2005, Illson joined the International Air Transport Association in Montréal, as Assistant Director, Safety where he led the development of airline safety management systems and information sharing programs.
Illson was subsequently appointed as a Senior Official at the International Civil Aviation Organization where he led development of Annex 19, containing requirements for safety management systems and State safety programs. Illson also managed a diverse team of Airworthiness, Certification and Flight Operations experts and worked with Civil Aviation Authorities to improve the implementation of international safety requirements globally.
Most recently, Illson served as Managing Director, Safety at Airlines for America where he provided strategic direction to the A4A Safety Council, coordinated the implementation of safety management systems and participated in multiple collaborative safety initiatives including the Commercial Aviation Safety Team (CAST) and the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) project.
Illson will report to Captain Bill Yantiss, PRISM Executive Vice President. “John brings additional skills and experience to PRISM that will enable us to expand our array of PRISM services to the international and domestic aviation communities,” said Yantiss.
Illson has earned type ratings on Airbus 320, Boeing 737/757/767, Fokker 100, DC-9 and BAC 1-11 aircraft. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Georgetown University and Master of Business Administration and Master of Public Policy and Management degrees, both from the University of Pittsburgh
