Here we go, ‘round again.

The speed of light — as we learned in high-school physics — is 186,000 miles per second!

But, do you have any idea about the speed of gravity? I’m serious. Many scientists now believe it is the same as the speed of light. I dunno what that has to do with anything I need to know, but it’s fun just thinking about it.

Did you by any chance see the great physicist Stephen Hawking on your computer or TV in the last couple of weeks? He was predicting that humankind will start migrating to other planets (or whatever they are properly called) within the next 100 years! He went on to say that we will all be gone from Earth within 1,000 years. He promises to explain it in writing this summer.

Will these new ideas change aviation? You can bet your life on it. After all, aviation uses and benefits from the new science of yesterday. Right now, Delta is planning to test a system that will allow you to check your baggage yourself. I don’t understand it, but know that the system will recognize your face! You can probably remember reading about face recognition way back in the 1960s when it was just a new idea. Now it will make flying easier.

Just think — an idea that will serve the customer! Will wonders never cease?
