China to expand construction of airports despite low profitability
China will speed up review procedures and build more new airports, despite three-fourths of the country's existing airports recording losses, the Guangzhou-based Southern Metropolis Daily reported Friday, Taiwan's official Central News Agency said.
According to the newspaper, Li Jiaxiang, head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), said at a Beijing forum on May 23 that the country will build 70 new airports and remodel 101 existing ones in the next five years to support the development of the domestic aviation sector.
Li also said that China's State Council will soon publish its guidelines on encouraging the sector's development, the news agency said, citing the report.
