Ramp Mishap Kills Swissport Baggage Handler

Employee became caught between a baggage loader and an aircraft

A 48-year-old man died of severe head and chest injuries suffered in an industrial accident last night at Pearson International Airport. Reports indicate the man was an employee of Swissport, a company that provides ground services to airlines. The man became caught between a baggage loader and an aircraft at about 8:30 p.m. He was airlifted to hospital, where he subsequently died. Investigators with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada are probing the accident.

Swissport provides ground handling service for various airlines operating at Pearson airport. Those services include loading and unloading aircraft and sorting and transporting baggage.
