American Airlines Flight From Los Angeles to New York Diverted to Nevada

The plane landed safely and made it to the gate under its own power.

As originally reported on the Las Vegas Sun, an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York City had to make an unplanned pitstop when it was diverted to Las Vegas on Wednesday.  According to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, NV, after the crew reported smelling smoke in the cockpit.  

Flight 256, an Airbus A321, reported the smell about 3 p.m. and landed safely at McCarran about 3:20 p.m., airport spokeswoman Christine Crews said.

The Clark County Fire Department found no smoke or fire aboard the plane, which had about 90 people aboard, she said.

The plane made it to the gate under its own power, Crews said.
