The Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO) is pleased to announce United Airlines will add winter seasonal nonstop service between Durango and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston. The airline launched summer and fall seasonal service between Houston and Durango this year and, due to strong demand, added more dates this upcoming winter.
One round-trip flight will operate between Durango and Houston each Saturday beginning Jan. 11, 2020 through Mar. 28, 2020 on a 70-seat Embraer E-170 aircraft.
The route will provide Durango passengers direct access to the greater Houston area, as well as connections throughout the Southeastern U.S. and many destinations in Latin America. In addition, visitors from Southeastern Texas may take advantage of nonstop access to Durango during the winter recreation season.
“Texas, and Houston in particular, represent a very important demographic for us,” said Keith Guyett, CMO for Mountain Capital Partners, the ownership group of Purgatory Ski Resort. “We see heavy visitation from the Houston area throughout the winter months, and nonstop air service to DRO will be a game changer for Houston-area ski and snowboard enthusiasts looking for direct access to our resort. The economic impact from this visitation not only impacts Purgatory, but also the entire Durango region.”
Seasonal nonstop service to Houston further enhances the diversity of flights available to more than 378,000 travelers who utilize the Durango-La Plata County Airport annually. Houston is the nation’s 15 busiest airport and a large United Airlines hub. With DRO now serving six major hubs, Durango passengers will have unprecedented access to domestic and international connections.

United Airlines’ decision to add winter seasonal service to Houston in 2020 further highlights the growing demand for air service in Southwest Colorado. “DRO is on track for its busiest year of all time in 2019, and next year is already shaping up to be a strong one,” said Vicari.
