Delta Expands Its Presence in New York and LA With 4 Upgraded Transatlantic Flights
Delta Air Lines has a thrilling update just a few months after announcing nine additional transatlantic routes. Four of these new long-haul flights will be enhanced to year-round service by the Atlanta-based carrier, a company representative revealed to ThePointsGuy. The following foreign routes will be operated year-round:
- New York — Berlin
- New York — Geneva
- Los Angeles — London
- Los Angeles — Paris
When Delta initially revealed these routes in September 2022, it did so as part of a significant summer focused expansion meant to take advantage of the increasing need for international travel during the summer as well as during school breaks.
For this reason, the airline had previously intended for all of the above flights to cease on October 27, 2023, and maybe make a comeback the following summer. However, it appears that there has been enough demand to warrant the changeover to year-round service. According to ThePointsGuy, Delta will add the extra flights to its calendar over the weekend, and the new frequency will be ready for purchase by Monday, Jan. 30.
The addition of flights to Geneva, which will be a brand-new pin on Delta’s route map when flights begin on April 10 is possibly the most intriguing development. Delta stopped flying to the Swiss city in 1993, 30 years ago.
Customers of Delta will find the transatlantic growth in two of Delta’s major coastal hubs to be equally attractive. This is good news for those residing in Southern California who prefer the ease of a nonstop journey to Europe, given that Los Angeles hasn’t been connected to Europe with Delta flights since March 2020.
From October 2015 on, American, United, and British Airways have all operated several daily flights between Los Angeles and London; Delta hasn’t since. Virgin Atlantic, another transatlantic joint venture partner of Delta, offers up to three flights per day between both cities.
In the meantime, Delta maintains its dominance as the top airline in New York. Travelers now have greater nonstop alternatives from the Northeast thanks to the addition of service to Geneva and Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), both in the German capital.
In addition to these improvements, in the fall of 2023, Delta will become the first U.S. airline to operate nonstop service between Los Angeles and Auckland, New Zealand, according to Thrillest.
New direct flights from JFK Airport in New York City will take passengers to London Gatwick Airport and Geneva Airport in Switzerland. Beginning in the spring of 2023, there will be direct flights from Atlanta to Nice, France; Tel Aviv, Israel; and Edinburgh, Scotland. The routes are being established as part of a larger initiative to resurrect transportation networks that have been dormant since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
