SWISS Cuts 676 Flights Through October, Citing Staffing Problems

June 29, 2022

Vienna — About 2% of flights on air carrier SWISS will be cut between August and October due to staffing and capacity shortages, the airline said Tuesday.

The cuts will correspond to 676 fewer flights in that time period, according to the Lufthansa subsidiary.

SWISS cited personnel shortages, strikes at some airports, the effects of Covid-19 and other capacity shortages as being behind the reduction in services.

The company had already announced earlier this year that some connections would be reduced due to staffing shortages.

"The complex aviation system in Europe and worldwide is currently operating at its limits," it said in a statement.

"We greatly regret these further adjustments to our flight schedules that have now become necessary, and we offer our sincere and express apologies to the customers affected and our further partners for the inconveniences they will entail."
