GREEN, Ohio – Allegiant Air plans to add nonstop flights between the Akron-Canton Airport and two popular Florida destinations, but not until fall.
Service to Orlando Sanford International Airport begins Oct. 6 and will run two times per week, on Thursdays and Sundays.
Service to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport starts Nov. 19 and will also run twice per week, primarily on Mondays and Fridays (with some variability).
The Orlando route is particularly important for Akron- Canton, which is losing its only nonstop flights to the popular destination in June, when Spirit Airlines temporarily pulls out of the Summit County airport.
Orlando is the Akron-Canton Airport’s top destination, according to airport officials.
Allegiant, based in Las Vegas, is a low-cost carrier that appeals primarily to leisure travelers, flying to vacation destinations with less than daily flights.
Allegiant flies into Orlando Sanford, about 20 miles northeast of the city – not the city’s dominant Orlando International Airport.
With the two new destinations, Allegiant will fly to six cities from Akron- Canton. The carrier already flies to Sarasota, St. Petersburg and Punta Gorda in Florida, and Savannah-Hilton Head in Georgia.
Allegiant relocated to the Akron-Canton Airport in March after flying from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport for several years, ending in early 2022.
To launch the new service, the carrier is offering introductory one-way fares for as low as $38, which must be purchased by Sunday. Information: allegiantair.com
