Allegiant Haults Flights from MidAmerica to Fort Lauderdale

May 3, 2022

May 3—Allegiant has stopped offering flights from MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The airline continues to fly to 11 other locations from MidAmerica, according to its website.

"Unfortunately, due to the labor shortage that's affecting the entire commercial aviation industry, we've had to reduce capacity within our network," Allegiant said in an email to the News-Democrat. "As a result, our Belleville-Fort Lauderdale (BLV-FLL) route, which started in May 2017, has gone on an early seasonal hiatus."

MidAmerica Director Bryan Johnson could not be reached for comment about the cancellation of the Fort Lauderdale service.

The Belleville to Fort Lauderdale route went on hiatus beginning in May, according to Allegiant. The airline said it could not comment on the future of this service "for competitive reasons."

"Our network planning team is constantly evaluating and adjusting service to best fit our customers' needs," Allegiant said in its statement. "This means we have the ability to ramp capacity up and down, seasonally, according to demand."

Allegiant first started flying out of MidAmerica in 2005. Other locations it serves from MidAmerica include Myrtle Beach and Charleston in South Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Jacksonville, Orlando/ Sanford, Fort Myers/ Punta Gorda, Sarasota/ Bradenton, Tampa/ St. Petersburg and Destin/ Fort Walton Beach in Florida; Phoenix/Sky Harbor, Arizona; and Las Vegas, Nevada.
