Breeze Airways Adding Eight Routes from Westchester, One from Bradley

April 21, 2022

Apr. 21—Breeze Airways announced Wednesday that it would expand to Westchester County Airport with eight routes launching in the summer and fall, establishing nonstop service from the startup airline's New York hub to the west coast.

Breeze's expansion to Westchester will include daily, nonstop flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Charleston, S.C.; nonstop flights several days per week to Jacksonville, Fla., Norfolk, Va., and Savannah, Ga.; and one-stop, same-plane service several days to New Orleans.

Also Wednesday, Breeze announced nonstop service between Windsor Locks-based Bradley International Airport and Las Vegas, starting Sept. 7.

Current commercial air service from Westchester, which stands just across the state line from Greenwich, extends only as far west as Chicago.

"Having lived so close to Westchester airport for many years, I wasted tons of time driving to JFK or Newark to travel to the west coast," Breeze founder and CEO David Neeleman, a serial aviation entrepreneur whose previous launches include JetBlue, said in a written statement.

"Now we'll offer daily flights to the highest-demand markets from New York, with the state-of-the-art Airbus A220 aircraft which pairs unrivaled comfort with 36 first-class, 10 extra-legroom and 80 standard seats — and half the noise footprint of past generations. There is literally no faster or more comfortable way to get from Westchester to the west coast."

Breeze will join seven other passenger airlines serving Westchester: American, Cape Air, Elite Airways, Delta, JetBlue, United and Tradewind Aviation.

Salt Lake City, Utah-headquartered Breeze launched at Bradley last May and announced in February that Connecticut's flagship airport would become one of its hubs, with plans to create more than 200 jobs in the state. Breeze could receive a state grant of up to $1.26 million if it meets its job goals.

So far, Breeze has announced 11 nonstop destinations for Bradley. It is already running flights between the airport and Columbus, Ohio; Norfolk; Pittsburgh; and Charleston. Last month, the airline announced that it would begin in June nonstop service between Bradley and Jacksonville; Nashville, Tenn.; Akron- Canton, Ohio; Savannah; Richmond, Va.; and Sarasota- Bradenton, Fla.

"We are pleased to be adding West Coast service on Breeze Airways as part of their continued growth at Bradley International Airport," Kevin Dillon, executive director of the Connecticut Airport Authority, which owns and operates Bradley, said in a statement. "It remains a privilege to continue partnering in the significant success and expansion of the airline, and we sincerely appreciate the commitment to our community."
