'Unruly Passenger' Forces Plane to Make Unscheduled Landing at Kansas City Airport

Feb. 14, 2022

Feb. 13—A flight heading Sunday afternoon from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. made an unplanned diversion to Kansas City because of an "unruly passenger," according to American Airlines.

Flight 1775 left Los Angeles International Airport about 11:15 a.m. for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. But instead of D.C., the plane landed at 2:28 p.m. at Kansas City International Airport because of the passenger.

Law enforcement was requested to meet the flight on arrival, American Airlines said in a statement. The passenger, who was "interfering" with the flight crew, was taken into custody, according to the FBI in Kansas City.

"We're grateful to our crew members, who are consistently dedicated to the safety and care of our customers and who handled the circumstances with the utmost skill and professionalism," the airline said.
