Dec. 16, 2020

A mechanic died Sunday after he was found unresponsive beneath a plane-moving apparatus at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, officials said.

Jijo George, 35, of Des Plaines, Ill., worked for Envoy Air before he was crushed beneath the movable equipment.

The Chicago Police Department said the man was found unresponsive around 2:06 p.m. local time and taken to Amita Health Resurrection Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office said the death was caused by multiple injuries inflicted by the crush of the device. The death was ruled an accident.

In a statement, Envoy Air said the incident was under investigation and that its “thoughts and prayers” are with George’s family.
