Bomb Squad Investigates ‘Suspicious Item’ Aboard SkyWest Plane Landing in Utah
A bomb squad was called to inspect a “suspicious item” at St. George Regional Airport in Utah Monday afternoon.
The item was aboard a SkyWest plane that flew in from Phoenix and was found by crew at around 11:30 a.m., the St. George News reported.
A member of the Washington County Bomb Squad removed the item, and a K-9 unit searched the plane and found nothing, airport operations supervisor Brad Kitchen told the St. George News. By 2:30 p.m. the scene was cleared.
Investigators did not reveal information about the item or why it had been deemed suspicious, the St. George News noted.
The incident, whose responders included the St. George Fire Department, St. George Police Department, St. George Aircraft Rescue 21, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, Gold Cross Ambulance and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, caused a few delays, the St. George News said.
The FBI acted as the lead investigator, USA Today reported. The airport, about 120 miles northeast of Las Vegas, hosts eight flights daily, connecting to Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Denver, The Spectrum reported.
