Emergency Landing, Plane Crash in Miami County

Oct. 13, 2022

A pilot suffered minor injuries in a plane crash Wednesday afternoon in Miami County.

Shortly after 3 p.m., the Miami County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that a plane crashed in the area of 319th Street and Moonlight Road, about 50 miles southwest of Kansas City.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene. The pilot had minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Miami County Undersheriff Matthew Kelly said. The pilot was the only occupant in the aircraft.

He made an emergency landing in a grass field near a small local airport, Kelly said.

It’s unclear why he had to make an emergency landing. The incident is under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
