Avelo Flight From Tweed to Nashville Diverted to DC After Crack Found in Windshield

Jan. 3, 2023

Jan. 1—NEW HAVEN — A Nashville-bound Avelo Airlines flight that took off from Tweed New Haven Regional Airport had to make an unscheduled landing in Washington D.C. Saturday after a crack was found on the inside of the windshield inside the cockpit, an Avelo official said.

"A small crack was observed on the inside of the flight deck windshield en route from New Haven to Nashville yesterday," said Avelo spokesman Jim Olson. "The flight was diverted to Washington Dulles — following standard procedure."

There was no emergency declared and the plane landed safely at Dulles, located outside Washington D.C., in northern Virginia, Olson said.

"An alternate aircraft flew to IAD and completed the flight to Nashville yesterday afternoon," Olson said.

One hundred forty-three passengers and five crew members were on board the plane, which was a Boeing 737-700, he said.
