China Southern’s Xiamen Airlines To Buy Airbus for the First Time

Sept. 22, 2022

Frankfurt — Xiamen Airlines, a subsidiary of China Southern Airlines, is to buy 40 medium-range jets of the A320neo series from Airbus, both parties announced on Thursday.

An Airbus spokesman said the order was in addition to large Chinese purchases from the world's largest airliner maker announced in July.

The purchase was the first Airbus order for Xiamen Airlines, also known as XiamenAir, which is based in the city of that name in Fujian province. To date it has flown exclusively planes made by US manufacturer Boeing.

In July, China Southern, China Eastern, Air China and Shenzhen Airlines ordered a total of 292 planes from the A320neo series.
