GAMA Applauds Introduction of Advanced Air Mobility Legislation in U.S. Senate

March 3, 2021

On March 2, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) praised the introduction of the Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act (S. 516) by Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) and Kyrsten Sinema (D- Arizona) in the U.S. Senate.

“Advanced Air Mobility is an emerging sector of the aviation industry which has the potential to facilitate new transportation options, create jobs and economic activity, advance environmental sustainability and new technologies, and support emergency preparedness and competitiveness,” said GAMA president and CEO Pete Bunce. “The Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act will ensure the federal government is effectively engaged and coordinated internally with industry and other stakeholders to recognize the broad benefits of this developing and transformative aviation sector. This bill compliments the ongoing work of the FAA to certify and build the operational regulatory framework to introduce electric aircraft into the national airspace system. We are deeply appreciative of Senators Moran and Sinema’s leadership to further advance this new and innovative frontier of aviation.”

The Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act authorizes the Secretary of Transportation to establish an interagency working group to plan for and coordinate efforts for the advancement of operating advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft. The working group will be tasked to review and make recommendations for the federal role in the AAM sector, beyond the initial critical stage of aircraft certification and operations, with a focus on economic and workforce opportunities, potential physical and digital security risks and mitigations, and infrastructure development.
