2018 NATIONAL HONOREES

C. William Pancake, Jr.National Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year

William (Bill) Pancake, Jr. of Keyser, West Virginia was honored as the 2018 Aviation Technician of the Year. He holds certificates as Commercial Pilot, Instrument, Multiengine, Flight Instructor, Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic (A&P), and Inspection Authorization (IA). His passion is repairing and restoring small vintage airplanes, he opened his own restoration shop: Pancake Aviation, and has built or restored 13 EAA AirVenture award-winning vintage airplanes. Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for modifications to vintage aircraft. He received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award, the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, and was inducted into the EAA Vintage Hall of Fame at Oshkosh.

Catherine Elizabeth CavagnaroNational FAA Safety Team Representative of the Year

Dr. Cavagnaro holds a Ph.D in mathematics from the University of Illinois. She is Professor of Mathematics and was Chair of the Mathematics Department at the University of the South, where she developed courses in aerodynamics, differential equations, and mathematical modeling using aviation examples. Catherine is lead rep and DPE for the Nashville FSDO. She is an ATP-SEL, COM-MEL, COM-SES and glider pilot and holds CFI, SEL/MEL and Instrument ratings. Catherine owns and operates the Ace Aerobatic School in Sewanee, TN, with expertise in spin training, recovery, and avoidance. Daniel Peter ChristmanNational Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year

Daniel Peter Christman of Las Vegas, Nevada has been named the 2018 National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year. Dan holds multiple ATP, instrument, aircraft, glider, Flight Engineer, and Remote Pilot ratings. He is a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF and a military instructor/evaluator pilot with flight experience in military aircraft. He has been a flight instructor for over 19 years, specializing in Avidyne, Garmin, Aspen and Honeywell glass cockpits. Dan created an aerobatic/upset recovery training program, and video content for a Helicopter Online Ground School Instrument Rating course. He supports the Young Eagles program and is an aviation ambassador to young enlisted Air Force airmen.

Gregory Allen FeithAviation Investigator and Consultant

Gregory Allen "Greg" Feith is a former NTSB Senior Air Safety Investigator who has investigated over 2000 aviation accidents worldwide. A few of his notable investigations include: ValuJet Flight 592 - SilKair Flight 185 - Swissair Flight 111 - Pan Am Flight 103 - American Airlines Flight 1420 - American Eagle Flight 4184. Greg Feith also consults on aviation safety and security matters, instructs at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University; contributes articles to several Business & Commercial Aviation magazines; and has been working as the technical advisor and actor in a number of television programs.
