Washington, DC, Dec. 18, 2014 – This month, the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) welcomed Michael Elledge as the 250th Certified Aviation Manager (CAM). This marks the first time since the CAM program's inception in 2003 that NBAA has listed 250 CAMs on its roster.
“With this milestone, the CAM program and credential have been embraced by the industry as the professional standard for preparation and achievement in business aviation,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen.
Elledge is a Dassault Falcon 2000LX captain at Devon Energy Corp. in Oklahoma City, OK. With two CAMs already in the Devon flight department, Elledge’s manager encouraged him to become a CAM to prepare for future leadership opportunities. Within Elledge’s department, attaining the CAM credential is viewed as a logical step in the progression of a business aviation career.
Elledge said that for pilots, attaining an airline transport pilot (ATP) license is often regarded as an early achievement, with limited career milestones to strive for after obtaining an ATP. For Elledge, the CAM credential serves as a concrete recognition of the skills he has cultivated in order to grow as a professional.
“Anyone seeking a career in the business aviation industry needs to continue learning and improving their talents and abilities whenever possible,” Elledge said.
Since earning accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) in October 2013, the CAM program has seen a substantial increase in the number of applicants, as well as the number of credentialed CAMs. Testing has been offered year-round since June 2014, making it easier for CAM candidates to complete the exam at a time that fits their schedules. NBAA also continues to increase the number of educational opportunities offered that provide CAM credit toward an application or recertification.
