Plane in Fatal Lehigh Valley Crash Was Owned by Local Flight School

Sept. 29, 2022

The plane involved in a fiery fatal crash in Lehigh County was owned by a Lehigh Valley flight training business, according to the FAA.

Proflite Aero LLC owned the 1968 Piper plane that crashed and caught fire Wednesday afternoon near a home on Keystone Road in Salisbury Township. One person was killed in the crash, and a second person injured.

The FAA said only the pilot was aboard the plane.

The plane registration lists a Bethlehem Township Staples store as an address, but the company’s office and simulator studio is in Palmer Township, according to its website.

The single-engine aircraft took off Wednesday afternoon from Queen City Airport in Allentown, the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority said.

The initial FAA report says the plane crashed under unknown circumstances at about 1:40 p.m. in a home’s yard, and that the person who died was a member of the flight crew.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said he was using radiology exams to identify the person who died, and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

The crash is under investigation by the coroner’s office, Salisbury Township police, the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.

The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation. Neither the FAA nor the NTSB identify people involved in aircraft accidents.
