Family of Woman Injured in Gray's Creek Plane Crash 'Praying For a Miracle'
The family of Dominique Northcutt, 25, is "praying for a miracle" after she and three others were injured in the crash of a small plane Monday in Gray's Creek.
The crash was reported just before 2 p.m. Monday at Gray's Creek Airport, which is off Butler Nursery Road just south of Fayetteville.
Nell Rhodes, who said she is Northcutt's aunt, said her niece is in critical condition at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Rhodes said Northcutt had emergency surgery on Tuesday to bleeding in her brain.
"We are here praying for a miracle. I know God is a healer," Rhodes said.
She said her niece also suffered a broken arm and leg and her lungs are bruised.
Northcutt and the others were taking part in a career day for students exploring aviation.
The program is run through the Cumberland County Workforce Development program and dates back to the 1960s and he Manpower Development Act, according to Sally Shutt, a spokeswoman for the county.
Also injured in the crash were Jake Parson, 19, of the 5300 block of Butler Nursery Road; Justin Elliott, 24, of the 9100 block of Colliers Chapel Church Road; and Vanessa Leal, 18, of the 6500 block of Northwest Drive.
As of Tuesday, Leal was listed in good condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
In one of the 911 calls that reported the crash, the caller told the operator that it was a terrifying scene on Monday and to send help fast.
In another 911 call, the caller says that four people were hurt and that one person was unresponsive. The caller can be heard telling someone, "Talk to me."
The caller then tells the operator that the injured are hurt "really bad."
The plane was a Cessna C172, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
