A small plane crashed into a house in the Washington, D.C., suburbs in Maryland Sunday, killing the lone person aboard the aircraft.
The plane went down in the town of Lanham in Prince George’s County around shortly before 3 p.m, hitting a carport attached to the house before breaking into several pieces, Mark Brady, a spokesman for Prince George’s County fire and emergency services, said.
The plane, carport, a single car and the attic of the home caught fire but the flames were extinguished before spreading further. The exterior of a second house appeared to be damaged as well.
No other injuries were reported and the house was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board was expected to take over the investigation, Brady said.
The homes are located about 3 miles south of an airport in College Park, Md.
