Jet Linx Grounds Its Fleet for a Day to Prioritize Safety

At a time when aviation safety is drawing increased attention, Jet Linx halted all flight operations on June 10 to hold its 9th Annual Safety Summit.

More than 500 employees across the country took part in the full-day event, gathering in person and virtually to engage in safety discussions, a roundtable featuring former NASA Astronaut Charlie Precourt, Captain Rich Loudon, and US Air Force Major Tyler Hicks, and scenario-based exercises.

The annual pause, now in its ninth year, aims to shift the conversation beyond compliance and toward culture, equipping teams to make sound decisions in real-world situations, not just on paper.

This year's theme, "Safety: Beyond the Checklist," encouraged employees to think critically about how personal accountability and team communication play a role in operational safety.

"The benefit of a company who will take the time to do a summit means their minds are in the right place," said keynote speaker Charlie Precourt.

"They're eager to be on the lookout for what might arise next, and that's really encouraging to see," said the former NASA Chief Astronaut and U.S. Air Force test pilot, who emphasized preparation and leadership under pressure, "Safety is not just important; it's personal."

Since 2017, Jet Linx has been the only private jet operator in the U.S. to voluntarily ground its fleet each year for an internal safety summit. The move carries an estimated revenue impact of more than $850,000, but company leaders say the investment reflects their long-term view.

"A healthy safety culture is when every single team member is engaged in the safety thought process every day. And while this is just one day out of 365, the fact that we continue to commit this kind of time and resources year after year, shows just how meaningful it's become to every member of our team," said Jamie Walker, executive chairman of Jet Linx.

The summit included sessions on airspace safety, fatigue management, and real-time decision making. Employees also renewed their annual safety pledges and recognized colleagues for standout safety leadership over the past year.

Jet Linx also holds third-party safety certifications, including ARGUS Platinum Elite, IS-BAO Stage 3, and WYVERN Wingman PRO—standards that require continuous audit, training and documentation.
