West Star Aviation Secures Honeywell CD-830 Display Upgrade STC
West Star Aviation has received a new Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) authorizing the company to install the Honeywell CD-830 Flat Panel Display on approved aircraft models.
The goal of this new capability is to keep adding services to support legacy avionics systems still being used in aging aircraft that remain in service longer than anticipated.
As a high volume of business aviation aircraft use legacy Honeywell Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) control display units, maintenance has grown more difficult for reasons like:
- Halted manufacturing of CRT display technology
- Hard-to-source components
- Heavier units than modern displays
- Higher electrical power consumption
- Lower long-term reliability
This is why West Star Aviation aims to modernize avionics equipment with the new CD-830 upgrade rather than repairing components that are too out-of-date.
The Honeywell CD-830 Flat Panel Display offers several performance benefits, such as:
- Flat-panel LCD technology
- No obsolete CRT hardware
- Lower aircraft weight
- Reduced electrical power consumption
- Better display reliability
- Expanded long-term parts support
- Minimal installation downtime
- FAA-approved installation through West Star’s AML STC
As this upgrade is a plug-and-play replacement, operators can implement the upgrade without having to modify the aircraft extensively.
This means:
- No major panel modifications
- No need for extensive rewiring
- Reduced aircraft downtime
- Easy replacement
Additionally, West Star Aviation’s new ST00818DE is an AML STC, which means the company can install the Honeywell CD-830 upgrade on 40+ aircraft models, including those from five different aircraft manufacturers.
