MAB Engineering Expands Subang Hangar, Doubling MRO Capacity

Around half of the Hangar 4 capacity will focus on maintenance requirements for Firefly and Malaysia airlines, and the other half will be dedicated to third-party MROs customers.

MAB Engineering Services (MAB Engineering) recently announced the expansion of its Hangar 4 airframe maintenance facility, which is doubling the organization’s capacity for providing MRO services.

MAB Engineering previously worked only in Hangar 1, which had two maintenance lines. At the new Hangar 4, there are four maintenance lines, which are:

  • One widebody (WB) line for the A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft
  • One narrowbody line for the Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-8
  • Two narrowbody propeller lines for the ATR72

The expansion also allows for significant improvements to MAB Engineering’s operations, including:

  • Better operational efficiency
  • More flexibility across mixed fleets
  • Optimized usage of resources
  • Enhanced workplace environment

By doubling its MRO capacity, MAB Engineering can now effectively support the fleets of:

Around half of the Hangar 4 capacity will focus on maintenance requirements for Firefly and Malaysia airlines, and the other half will be dedicated to third-party MROs customers.

The expansion follows a 15-year lease agreement with Impeccable Vintage Properties Sdn Bhd (IVP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd. It is also part of Malaysia Aviation Group’s (“MAG”) Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 (LTBP 3.0).

Launched in December 2025, this plan aims to improve resiliency and efficiency for MAB’s MRO operations, ensuring the group remains ready for the future and rising demand for aircraft maintenance.

President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar said, “The successful commissioning of Hangar 4 marks a significant milestone in strengthening our engineering and maintenance capabilities as part of MAG’s long-term growth strategy.”

Bakar continued, “This expansion not only doubles our maintenance capacity at Subang, but also enhances our ability to serve both MAG airlines and international customers more effectively.

“As demand for high-quality MRO services continues to grow across the region, Hangar 4 positions us to compete more strongly, support Malaysia’s ambition as a regional aviation hub and deliver greater long-term value to the Group and our customers,” added Bakar.
