Anissa Fuerte is a lead technician at Southwest Aerospace Technologies (S.W.A.T.), where she works on large airplanes and serves as a parts inspector.

Fuerte reflects on the beginning of her career, explaining, “My journey in aviation began in the military, where I took on the role of an Apache helicopter mechanic. Although I had no idea what I was getting myself into at the time, I quickly discovered a passion for the work. That experience gave me the foundation, discipline and purpose that continued to guide my career in aviation. Looking back, I couldn't have picked a better start for myself.”

In terms of her proudest accomplishment, Fuerte names her military service and the growth she’s achieved in the aviation industry.

Fuerte says, “I started my career in army aviation with absolutely no experience or knowledge in the field but quickly developed my technical skills, broadened my knowledge base and took every opportunity to learn and lead. Over time, I transitioned from mechanic to maintenance supervisor, to technical inspector, ultimately ending my Army career as the go-to subject matter expert in my department.”

Julie Stone of Southwest Aerospace Technologies highlights Anissa’s commitment to success and continuous improvement, sharing, “She is one of the technicians who frequently travels offsite to customer locations, as well as our service facility in Canada, to work on engine maintenance projects and other larger jobs.”

Stone adds, “Although the processes are fairly the same, there has been a transition from helicopter maintenance to working on airplanes, especially larger ones. She has managed this very well, and she is extremely receptive to learning new skills and learning from the other technicians she works with.”

Discussing how she hopes to impact her organization and the aviation industry, Fuerte states, “I want to inspire other technicians to take pride in their craft. I hope to mentor others showing them that with hard work and a willingness to learn, they can build a rewarding career.”

Anissa offers advice to future aviation professionals, saying, “Stay humble, ask questions and never stop learning. Opportunities in this field are endless for those who are willing to take initiative and put in the effort.”
