Michael Gresley is a continuous improvement specialist and quality assurance technical publications administrator at AAR – MRO Services Indianapolis.
He started as a crew chief in the Air National Guard for a team working on an A-10C Thunderbolt II and worked his way through roles like dedicated crew chief for A0214 aircraft and technical orders data analyst.
Gresley credits much of his journey to his military career, stating, “Joining the military led me to where I am today. My interest in aviation and the opportunities provided to me by the military sparked my passion for the field. Upon entering civilian aviation, I obtained my A&P license, which ultimately led me to my current role in quality assurance and continuous improvement.”
When asked why he enjoys working in aviation, Gresley answers, “Aviation provides a very valuable service to the commercial world and is critical to the defense of our country. I very much enjoy having the opportunity to contribute to both areas.”
In terms of his proudest accomplishments, Gresley notes, “The accomplishment I am most proud of is obtaining my college degree and lean six sigma certification while working full time and raising a family.”
Gresley continues, “I am also proud to have been a part of collaborative continuous improvement projects that have saved the company money and improved the overall safety of our workplace.”
VP of Operations and Acting General Manager at AAR – MRO Services Indianapolis Kelly Sauer says, “Just one of Michael's continuous improvement initiatives this year saved the operation over $300k in equipment costs, but more importantly, it took the risk of that particular operation from high to low, improving the overall safety by a factor of 10.”
Gresley states, “I want to help facilitate change, innovation, and improvement in the pursuit of excellence in safety and quality. I enjoy the problem-solving opportunities in my job as well as working to educate and develop others.”
To future aircraft maintenance professionals, Gresley says, “I would advise someone who is new to the aviation industry to never stop asking questions and to identify mentors and absorb as much practical experience as you can from them.”
