Alabama-based Aviation Company Enters Memo of Understanding to Bring Italian Manufacturer’s Helicopters to U.S.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – AAL USA Inc. has signed memorandum of understanding with Finmeccanica to bring the Italian manufacturer’s AW009 helicopter to the U.S. market.
AAL USA, which is based in Huntsville, will initially spearhead the process of getting Finmeccanica’s helicopter authorized by the FAA for use in the U.S. Beyond that, AAL USA will work on an ongoing basis to service and distribute the aircraft for U.S. customers.
“This helicopter is particularly well-suited for law enforcement agencies and training centers,” said Paul Daigle, CEO of AAL USA. “It’s a very good aircraft for learning to fly, it costs less than competitors, and it comes with more options for mission equipment. We are so proud to partner with Finmeccanica to bring this product to the U.S.”
The light, single-engine helicopter was presented just this week at the Heli-Expo in Louisville, Ky. The updated model features enhanced comfort, reduced maintenance and operating costs, an all-new electronic system, and an option for a more powerful engine. At least one California police department already is in line to purchase one of the helicopters.
AAL USA operates a 62,0000-square-foot hangar at Huntsville International Airport and also has facilities in UAE and Afghanistan. It provides maintenance, repair and overhaul for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft for military and commercial customers.
Finmeccanica is a global leader in the aerospace and defense industry with operations around the world.
