Army Helicopters Make a Pitstop in Boulder
Jul. 11—Army National Guard helicopters from Montana made a pit stop in Boulder this weekend while on their way to training in Fort Polk, La.
The helicopters that touched down in Boulder on Saturday included five H-60 Blackhawks and four large Chinook CH-47 twin rotors, according to Boulder Municipal Airport Manager John Kinney. The Louisiana joint training exercise will include other units from across the nation in which medical evacuation scenarios will be simulated, Kinney said.
The airport is required to accommodate all users as a federally funded facility.
Kinney said he facility is happy to continue supporting the Army and Air National Guard units especially after their assistance during the 2013 floods.
"Coloradoan's lives were saved that week and hundreds were plucked from devastation by the ANG/US Army's honed skills achieved through training missions in advance of a live response," Kinney wrote in an email.
