L2 Aviation has officially received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to install its Thales AVIATOR 200S Satellite Communication (SATCOM) system on Boeing 777 aircraft.

The Supplemental Type Certificate ST12322AC approves the installation, in compliance with design documentation and flight manual supplements that have already been approved.

This new avionics certification allows for next-generation satellite connectivity that helps operators enhance safety in the cockpit and improve operational data and voice communications.

The AVIATOR S Series platform operates with a satellite antenna and satellite data unit, keeping cockpit and cabin networks separate while facilitating global communication.

This solution helps airlines to support services like:

  • Critical safety services
  • Air Traffic Control (ATC)
  • Aircraft Operational Control (AOC)
  • Onboard internet access, email and voice services

President & Chief Operating Officer at L2 Aviation Tony Bailey said, “Our team worked closely with Thales and the FAA to certify and integrate the AVIATOR 200S system on the Boeing 777 platform, ensuring the aircraft can fully support the next generation of connected aviation services.”

Bailey added, “Our solution enables reliable global satellite communications that support critical cockpit safety and operational services while also delivering the passenger connectivity airlines and travelers now expect.”
