KF Aerospace Gets STC for First Ever Boeing 737-800 Combi Conversion
Canadian MRO KF Aerospace has just received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC #SA25-72) from Transport Canada for its Boeing 737-800 Combi conversion.
This Boeing 737-800 Combi conversion is the first of its kind in the world, and its entry into service highlights progress in the global possibilities of aircraft modifications.
The newly converted and certified aircraft has a multi-role configuration that allows for a 90-seat cabin as well as a cargo compartment with five pallet positions. KF Aerospace delivered the first conversion in October 2025 to Air Inuit.
Receiving the STC enables the 737-800 Combi to be even more versatile, adding to features like the AEI 737-800SF large cargo door.
The conversion involved redesigning systems and the interior of the aircraft to ensure it maintains compliance with certification requirements.
Some key integrations made by KF Aerospace in the cargo compartment of this aircraft include:
- Advanced smoke-containment systems
- Fire detection
- Halon-based fire suppression
KF Aerospace also modified the aircraft’s freighter-specific detection systems and developed new parts and custom solutions to enable the complex modifications.
While KF Aerospace’s in-house engineering department spearheaded the program, other teams were also critical to its success, such as:
- Installation team
- Test team
- Manufacturing team
“The achievement of the 737-800 Combi underscores the power of a true partnership that KF and AEI have enjoyed over the course of three decades,” says Robert T. Convey, senior vice president at AEI.
Convey continues, “By combining AEI’s cargo door conversion expertise with KF’s engineering and operational strengths, we are able to deliver a world-first Combi that unlocks new possibilities for operators worldwide.”
“This project reflects the ingenuity, dedication, and deep technical expertise of our entire team,” says Gregg Evjen, president of KF Aerospace.
Evjen adds, “KF is proud to deliver a world-first solution that expands what’s possible in aircraft conversion and supports our customers’ complex operational needs.”
