Clogged Filter Causes Smoke Condition at Sikorsky Facility in Shelton, Officials Say
Jun. 7—SHELTON — A clogged filter caused smoke at the Sikorsky Aircraft facility on Monday, fire officials said.
Firefighters were called to the facility around 12:20 p.m. Deputy Chief Paul Wilson said firefighters discovered some minor smoke coming from a filter clogged with metal fibers in a steel shaving machine. The metal fibers caused some heat to build up and smoldered the actual filter, Wilson said.
A spokesperson with Lockheed Martin, which owns Sikorsky, said an emergency response team on-site also responded.
Wilson said the incident was minor and there was no fire at any point.
The facility was temporarily evacuated while the fire department cleared the smoke, the Lockheed Martin spokesperson said.
There were no injuries or damage from the incident, Wilson said.
