Georgia Sees Decrease in Number of Flights Carried Out through Its Airspace
Mar. 16—The number of flights carried out through Georgia's airspace was down 61 percent in February 2021 compared to February 2020 and totaled 4,426, Trend reports via Georgian media.
This is 59 percent less than in February 2019 against 10,886 flights carried out through the territory of Georgia and 11,233 in February 2020.
The decline in flights through Georgia's airspace was caused by the COVID-19-related international flight ban.
Regular international flights resumed in Georgia since February 1.
On January 29, the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia granted the airlines permission to operate in accordance with the submitted schedule.
Air traffic in Georgia was completely suspended in March 2020, after which only Georgian Airlines operated in the country for several months and carried out special flights in order to return Georgian citizens from foreign countries back home, as part of the anti-COVID measures. — Follow the author on Twitter: @Mila61979356
