Firms Get $5.5 Million in DOE Grant Funding for Electric Aircraft Research

NISKAYUNA — Two Capital Region companies, General Electric Co. and Wright Electric, have been awarded $5.5 million in funding from the federal Department of Energy for electric aviation research projects that seek to design new commercial aircraft propulsion systems that use less energy and emit less carbon.

GE's Global Research Center in Niskayuna was awarded $4.8 million in two grants, while Wright Electric in Albany was awarded $647,000.
