Aerion Supersonic to Invest $300 Million, Bring 675 Jobs at $105K Each to Melbourne

Aerion Supersonic, a builder of super-fast private jets, will build a new headquarters in Florida, promising 675 high-paying jobs and a $300 million investment at Orlando Melbourne International Airport in Brevard County.

Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled the move at a Capitol news conference on the coronavirus pandemic, saying he wanted to start with some “good news.”

DeSantis said the jobs would pay an average of $105,000.

The governor said Aerion Supersonic will build its next-generation jet called the AS2, which the company on its website described as “hyper luxury at over 1,000 mph.”

The 8- to 12-passenger aircraft is expected to begin flying in 2026.

Tom Vice, CEO of the company currently based in Reno, Nevada, said via teleconference that employees are already moving to temporary offices in Brevard, and work on the campus called Aerion Park would begin by the end of the year.

“We are building the next generation of high-speed transportation networks that will revolutionize global mobility without leaving a carbon footprint on our world,” Vice said. “Our AS2 business jet, the world’s first privately built supersonic aircraft, is the first stage in that exciting endeavor.''

The 675 jobs would be in place by 2026, he said.
