A Beavercreek firm won a $39.6 million U.S. Navy contract to deliver F-18 communication systems, and a key mission at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is securing spare parts for Air Force One.

Leonardo DRS Airborne and Intelligence Systems — which has offices on Mission Point Boulevard — was awarded a firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for the production and delivery of up to 55 Joint Tactical Terminal Transceiver units, the Department of Defense recently said.

This contract supports the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft, with work to be performed in Beavercreek, expected to be completed by February 2028.

The company has some 60,000 square feet of office, lab and production space in Beavercreek, with about 100 employees.

This contract came from Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md.

Also awarded recently: A big contract modification from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson to Boeing for spare parts for two VC-25B aircraft, planes which serve the president.

The $75 million modification is the maximum under a previously awarded contract, bringing the total cumulative face value of the contract to $4.49 billion, up from $4.42 billion, the DOD said.

Work will be performed at San Antonio, Texas.

The Boeing VC-25B Bridge is a military conversion of a 747-8 airliner, serving as an interim Air Force One presidential transport to complement the aging VC-25A fleet.

It was thought that one of the VC-25A aircraft flew its final mission in June this year, returning President Trump from the G-7 conference in France. There are just two such aircraft.

In January this year, what was said to be an electrical issue aboard an Air Force One forced a flight carrying Trump to Europe to turn back, national reports said at the time.

In Franklin, Aviation Ground Equipment was one of more than 15 companies nationally named to an Air Force Materiel Command contract with a $920 million ceiling to provide “next generation aerospace and ground equipment.”

AFMC is based at Wright-Patterson.
