Navy, SDG&E Helicopters Collide Tuesday Near Brown Field; No One Injured

Nov. 28, 2022

A San Diego-based Navy helicopter collided in flight with a San Diego Gas and Electric helicopter Tuesday evening, the Navy said in a statement.

Both aircraft landed safely at Brown Field and no one was injured. The collision occurred around 5:50 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The MH-60R Sea Hawk was conducting night training when the collision occurred, according to Ensign Bryan Blair, a Navy spokesperson at Naval Air Forces in San Diego. It is assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41 at Naval Air Station North Island. HSM-41 is a training squadron for Navy pilots and aircrew, the Navy said.

The SDG&E contracted helicopter is a Sikorsky UN-60A — essentially the civilian version of the Navy helicopter, the FAA said.
