Fighter Jets Were Part of NORAD Exercise

If you saw fighter jets flying around Tuesday, it was just an exercise involving the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD.

Weather permitting, exercise "Fertile Hawk" was scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday over Eastern Massachusetts and Eastern Connecticut, and included F-15 fighter planes and Civil Air Patrol Cessna 182T general aviation aircraft. The exercise was scheduled to include flights at approximately 3,000 feet.

NORAD said it routinely conducts exercises with a variety of scenarios, including airspace restriction violations, hijackings and responses to unknown aircraft. NORAD said it carefully plans and closely controls all exercises.
